Team Black Horse.

Team Black Horse.

Gold Trails with Kevin Hoagland is set to premier in January. 2015. I’ve known Kevin for over a decade and while we’ve lost touch over the years, we had many good gold prospecting hunts together and he is a good guy. Kevin used to own and operate Black Horse Mining and Research in Prescott Valley, AZ. He sold this business to another local prospector Russ Ford, some years ago. The four guys in the picture with Minelab gold detectors follow left to right, Travis Brown (Pro Gold Prospecting), Randy (now deceased I think), Kevin Hoagland and Ted Scott (GoldPlacer.com). These guys are all good folks and I’ve become a better prospector and person for knowing each of them. I truly believe that in life we have many kinds of friends that we meet at various times for very specific reasons. Some are lifelong friends and some are phase friends that we know as we grow, move to other locations and pursue other interests. Both are equally valuable.

Kevin asked me to join Team Black Horse but it was just not my gig. Call me crazy but I never wanted to sell gold prospecting equipment, only want to find gold. Some folks enjoy both gold prospecting and selling mining equipment. After selling Black Horse Mining and Research and through his passion for gold prospecting and metal detecting Kevin eventually became Minelab’s Director of Dealer Development.

Kevin has always been great with a camera and on film, so I’m very happy that he’s landed this show. He was frequently filming something or taking pictures while we were out gold prospecting. You can see in the picture of Kevin and I near the truck he has a camera in his hand. He has a great deal of passion for both media and gold prospecting so this show might raise the bar as far as realism and quality are concerned. While I don’t watch much TV I’ll certainly watch Gold Trails (at least the first episode) just to see an old friend doing well. I think that one quality that Kevin has that will set the Gold Trails TV show apart from others is that he always seemed to like to educate folks and is very genuine and friendly to everyone he meets. If you’re looking for a fresh gold prospecting TV show to follow Gold Trails with Kevin Hoagland might be a good bet.

Below you’ll also find some home movies from my collection with Kevin in them from years gone by. To wrap this up I hope Gold Trails with Kevin Hoagland is everything I’m expecting it to be. And Kevin, old friend, if/when you read this I’ve got three words for you…Good for you!
