Sometimes I forget about all the in depth research data that is on this site. Well, the old version of this site. I’ve worked with some brilliant technical folks over the years and their work shall not rest in vein. Vein, get it…gold vein…ugh
One of my favorite features is the Arizona Place Names Database. It has over 40,000 records just waiting for you and best of all its free. But wait there’s more, we also have California (220,000+ records) and New Mexico (55,000+ records) Place Names databases too. How cool is that? You can check them out here

So what is a “place name” anyway? Basically a name of a place. The name could be based on the founder of the place, a feature of the place or a general descriptor of the place. And in Arizona, like all the other states, often the same place name can be used to describe different areas. Place names are very helpful when you want to begin the process of narrowing down a gold bearing location lead, lost treasure, etc.
Check them out and share your thoughts.
